During the week of the November Praesidium (20 November), 90 colleagues and friends from across Europe joined BAB to honour three key figures in UK and European agriculture, as they prepare to step down from their roles.

Well respected both in the UK and in Brussels, the trio collectively represent 45 years of dedicated service to the UK Farming Unions.

Aled Jones, outgoing President of NFU Cymru, will step down in February 2026 after 4 years at the helm. Throughout his presidency, Aled has been a steadfast supporter of the BAB office, regularly attending Copa-Cogeca praesidium’s and championing Welsh farming interests on the European stage.

Wesley Aston, retiring after more than 30 years with the Ulster Farmers’ Union in spring 2026, has been a familiar and respected presence across the island of Ireland, Great Britain, and Brussels. Since becoming CEO in 2015, Wesley has been a tireless advocate for Northern Irish farmers and a valued ally of the BAB office.

Terry Jones, Director General of the NFU, is set to leave his post in spring 2026 after a decade of leadership. Despite a packed schedule, Terry made time for one final visit to Brussels. His tenure spanned some of the most turbulent years in UK agriculture, including Brexit, during which he remained a consistent and influential supporter of the BAB office.

Reflecting on the occasion, BAB Director Robin Manning said:

“It was a true privilege to welcome our colleagues and friends from across Europe as we marked the departure of Aled, Wesley, and Terry. Each of them has played a vital role in supporting the BAB office over the years, and their contributions - both professional and personal - will be sorely missed in Brussels and back home in the UK.”
